Winter Writing Festival – Check in #2


The Ninth Annual Ruby Slippered Sisterhood Winter Writing Festival is in high gear. Come join us today and let us know how you’re doing, meeting your goals and enjoying fellowship with other writers!

Yesterday we completed our SECOND FULL WEEK, so today it’s time to officially check in!

If you’re reading this on the Festival website (the blue site), jump on over to the regular Ruby Slippered Sisterhood blog ( the ruby-colored site, at rubyslipperedsisterhood.com) and leave a quick comment about your experience with the Festival and your progress so far. That will put you in the running to win some of today’s Check-In prizes!!!! (See info on SWAG you could win, below!!)

A few bits of business before we move on:

1.  CHAT ROOM SPRINTS – ALL ARE WELCOME!

If you haven’t had a chance to join us yet, what are you waiting for?! Our Chat Room is open over at the rsswwf.com site. The sprints can really help participants make progress and it’s also a great way to chat with other authors! So pop on in – we promise it’s a friendly place – and draft new words, revise old ones or get some ideas as you work through your synopsis.

2. We’re at 15 POINTS! (That’s where you should be at the end of the day today if you earned all the points you were supposed to this week. You should have sixteen points if you got the bonus for signing in on the first day! And if you’ve earned some extra points–count those too!)

If you earned all your points for the week, please add a line in your comment in all caps saying I MADE MY GOAL!!! You will hear us cheering loudly!!!

If you’re a bit behind, don’t worry about it. The festival is about getting work done and if you’re managing to your own pace, just keep on keeping on! You can always double up on later dates, OR revise your point-earning system if your original was a tad too ambitious. It’s okay to say, “I need to change my goals” or “I need a few ways to earn points on the tougher days.”

Our overall goal is to keep working, keep moving forward and keep making progress. The Festival is designed for YOU!

    Well, so far so good. Even being gone part of last week I still managed to do a little writing. I was glad to get home so I could get back to a more regular routine and the story again!

    I did! I kept my wordcount goal low–but I’ve made it every day and then some. It’s actually been really nice. Once I’ve met it for the day, I HAVE CHOICES!

    I made my goal! Sort of. 🙂 I did write every day, even if it was just 100 words, so I’m pleased. Heading over to the chatroom to get more words in!

  4. I’ve been making progress. Really good progress – but I don’t think I’m anywhere near 15 points. It didn’t help that I got sick (AGAIN) this week. I really need to stop catching every bug that comes my way. This next week though, this next week I’m going to crush it!

    I’m a half a page from my editing goal so I’m gonna give myself the points. My writing goal not so much. I might have been too ambitious thinking I could start a new project and do a rewrite on this one. I think I’ll change mine to just the rewrite.

    I MADE MY GOAL!!!
    So maybe it wasn’t the world’s biggest goal (write 500 words OR Edit 1 hour OR…) but I made it every day and blew past it most days. I would never have believed an online writing festival could have such an impact on my productivity!

      Fabulous!! I haven’t been able to sprint this year but loved the sprints I did last year. They’re amazingly productive and motivating. CONGRATS on meeting your goal!

    I MADE MY GOAL! My goal was (for me) ambitious: write 5 days per week. I only have to write for 15 minutes each of those days, but I’d say my average has been about 45 minutes. I’m still in the world building stage, so I’m writing backstory and character notes rather than actual pages, but it feels great to be making this steady progress!

    I was no where close to my goal thanks to the flu. I’m still sleeping a lot after work so not a lot of writing happening.

    I did get about 900 words in, but the best part was Tuesday’s plotting session with Hope. Thanks to all the ladies that night for giving me ideas of how to avoid the dreaded ‘saggy middle’ (of the book, not the waist line!!) So I count my minimal progress as success overall.

    Well, not the best week for me, even with the low bar I set myself.

    My error was not hosting a sprint on Saturday (I had a conflicting obligation). But I’ll be back on track sprint hosting this Saturday.

    Onward and upward!

    Another 10 hour day at the office meant I didn’t manage to write anything yesterday, but I did make up for it over the weekend! I’m at 18.5 points. I’m making progress but not as much as I would have hoped – so I’m trying to remember that this is a long game.

    I finished the second week at 9. Nailed the first week, flunked the second one. Between a mini vacation with the fam and then me and the youngest besing sick for several days then playing catch up on all other responsibilities, I only met daily goals twice. Oh well, it’s still more than nada! :-). Glad to see so many people that DID meet their goals. Woo hoo!
