HOT Reads Edition of Fan Girl Friday

Welcome to Friday! Can I get an AMEN?

And we have a long weekend. I can almost hear a gospel choir in the background. Yes, we get an extra day and that means more time for….READING! possibility - Beth

So what do we have on tap for you this edition? Well, a few sales from two Rubies and a couple of recommendations plus a new release. You ready to check these out and then give us your recommended Labor Day weekend reads?

First the sales…let’s check out the deals:

Ruby Sister Laurie Kellogg has The Parent Pact FREE. A Little Bit of Deja Vu will be only $1.99 and Baby, I’m Back! will be only 99 cents. All only at Amazon. Here’s the page where you can score these deals https://www.amazon.com/Laurie-Kellogg/e/B0076J5Q20/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1472784812&sr=1-1

And from yours truly (Liz Talley), the first book in my new Morning Glory series Charmingly Yours is on sale for $1.99! I’m a little too excited about having a book on sale because as a trad pubbed author I don’t get to run sales. It’s the perfect light escapist read that’s heavy on romance with a tinge of Women’s Fiction. And the cover is really cute if I do say so myself. Here’s the link where you can score this one: http://bit.ly/CharminglyYours

Oh, and Ruby Skye Jordan has a fabulous promotion and giveaway going this Labor Day weekend. Plenty of books on sale and a change to win books. There will be 24 WINNERS with tons of great authors (72 of them!) participating. You can ENTER HERE: http://bit.ly/2bdoG1M

Now on to RECOMMENDATIONS….

From Tamara Hogan:

Last week, I read former MTV VJ Dave Holmes’s new memoir, “Party of One: A Memoir in 21 Songs.” A “hilarious memoir of a perpetual outsider fumbling towards self-acceptance, with the music of the ‘80s, ‘90s, and today as his soundtrack,” Holmes, now Editor-At-Large at Esquire magazine, brings serious writing chops and massive pop culture cred to this bittersweet – and did I say hilarious? – coming of age story.

From Elizabeth Langston

I recommend Noelle Adams for adult contemporary romance. A Negotiated Marriage and Listless are two of my favorites. LISTED will make you cry. https://www.amazon.com/Listed-Volumes-I-VI-Noelle-Adams-ebook/dp/B00BXPHW5C A Negotiated Marriage is a modern marriage of convenience. https://www.amazon.com/Negotiated-Marriage-Noelle-Adams-ebook/dp/B00B09UST8 I also like her Willow Park series. It’s set in a small mountain town in NC. Attending the same church is the the common thread throughout the series–but that is one happy congregation, because these books are sweet and steamy (is that even possible?) https://www.amazon.com/Married-Christmas-Willow-Park-Book-ebook/dp/B00H0OKQ76

And finally a NEW RELEASE from Ruby Julia Day (Yes, a pen name…we have a few of those but no worries, they’re still Rubies!)

I have a new book releasing on Tuesday, Sept 6.  If you want to add it tomorrow, it is available for pre-order.  If you want to wait until next week, that’s fine too.  The book is THE POSSIBILITY OF SOMEWHERE.  My first YA contemporary romance.

Here’s a link to my books page: that might be easier than including a gazillion buylinks. http://www.juliaday.com/books/the-possibility-of-somewhere/

Now let’s hear from you. WHAT ARE YOU READING THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND?

RED HOT READS – Fan Girl Friday Edition

Hola, Rubies and Ruby friends –

TGIF! Am I right?

It’s been a loooooong week in the Talley family hacienda and I need a few things this weekend – a margarita, a morning in my PJs and, of course, a good book. I just finished up Colleen Hoover’s latest (as mentioned last week) and it has a satisfying finish. So I’m off to look for my next great read. And there’s a lot out there to choose from.

I’m counting on you for some good suggestions. Let’s start with a few Rubies and their TBR stacks:

From Ruby Heather McCollum we get an oldie but a goodie:

I read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Peel Society  this for book club and loved it. It’s literary fiction set in post WWII England and the Isle of Guernsey. It is written only in letters between people – what a unique way to tell a story. After the initial adjustment when I realized it was all written in letter format, I got sucked into the story and loved it. Totally recommend.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015DWJX2/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1#nav-subnavsweet potato society

Blurb: “I wonder how the book got to Guernsey? Perhaps there is some sort of secret homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers.” January 1946: London is emerging from the shadow of the Second World War, and writer Juliet Ashton is looking for her next book subject. Who could imagine that she would find it in a letter from a man she’s never met, a native of the island of Guernsey, who has come across her name written inside a book by Charles Lamb….

As Juliet and her new correspondent exchange letters, Juliet is drawn into the world of this man and his friends—and what a wonderfully eccentric world it is. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society—born as a spur-of-the-moment alibi when its members were discovered breaking curfew by the Germans occupying their island—boasts a charming, funny, deeply human cast of characters, from pig farmers to phrenologists, literature lovers all.

Juliet begins a remarkable correspondence with the society’s members, learning about their island, their taste in books, and the impact the recent German occupation has had on their lives. Captivated by their stories, she sets sail for Guernsey, and what she finds will change her forever.

Written with warmth and humor as a series of letters, this novel is a celebration of the written word in all its guises, and of finding connection in the most surprising ways.

And Ruby Vivi Andrews/Lizzie Shayne pulled out another one she’d been meaning to get around to:

I recently read a book that had been lingering on my Kindle for years and it was fabulous.  The first book of Lexxie Couper’s Heart of Fame series, Love’s Rhythm – about an Australian rock star trying to find his way back to what–and who–really matters in life.  Sexy rocker, secret baby, and oooooh the hotness.  A really beautifully written, sexy book.

https://www.amazon.com/Loves-Rhythm-Heart-Fame-Book-ebook/dp/B007C6YYSO/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1472162605&sr=8-18&keywords=lexxie+couper#nav-subnav

And out this week, Ruby Sis Kim Law has the newest in her Wildes of Birch Bay series Montana Rescue. There’s a retiring championship bull rider and the helicopter pilot/childhood crush who’s recently widowed. Lots of serious catnip for readers in this new book. And the cover is gorgeous! Check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/Montana-Rescue-Wildes-Birch-Book-ebook/dp/B01CQF27MA/ref=sr_1_3?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1472178415&sr=1-3&keywords=kim+law#nav-subnav

So three good ones this week, but WE NEED MORE RECS! So what are you reading? I’d love to have your recommendation for the next book to keep me up until the wee hours. Kim_MontanaRescue

HOT READS Edition of Fan Girl Friday

Well, it’s Friday again. How did that happen? Rolls around quite regularly, doesn’t it? And since that means the weekend is here, we’ve got some recommendations for you for some RUBY RED HOT READS!

First Elizabeth Langston has a recommendation our first FROM THE TBR STACK:it ends with us

I’ve always been fascinated by Thomas Jefferson. So smart, eloquent, and flawed.  When I saw America’s First Daughter on sale recently, I grabbed it.  I’m loving it; the research and detail is amazing.

America’s First Daughter: A Novel by Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie
https://www.amazon.com/Americas-First-Daughter-Stephanie-Dray-ebook/dp/B00ZP4KE70

Autumn Jordan’s rec sounds pretty but may be a bit twisted:)

The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchinson

If you want to read an emotional psychological thriller where every characters’ personality is revealed like an onion being peeled, then the The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchison might be for you. It might not be for you if you’re faint of heart. I gave this book a 4.75 rating.

LINK to The Buterfly Garden https://www.amazon.com/Butterfly-Garden-Dot-Hutchison-ebook/dp/B016ZNRC0Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1471265766&sr=1-1&keywords=the+butterfly+garden

And let me add my rec for you. I’m in the middle of Colleen Hoover’s It Ends with Us and I’m really enjoying it. This is the first time I’ve read this author, and I particularly like the secondary thread of the journals. They’re sweet, funny and touching. It just came out at the beginning of this month and it’s a pretty hot read. If you’re looking for a nice escapist book, it’s perfect for you. Here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/Ends-Us-Novel-Colleen-Hoover-ebook/dp/B0176M3U10/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1471573644&sr=1-1&keywords=colleen+hoover

How about a HOT COVER REVEAL?

HOT Reads Edition of Fan Girl Friday

Happy “Good Lord It’s Hot” Friday!

Or at least it’s hot in my neck of the woods. Kids are gearing up for back to school, the pool is too hot for a dip (temp of bathwater? No thanks) and fall isn’t even flirting with me yet.

BUT, good news – we have some hot reads you can nab. Then put your feet up, grabbed that chilled wine spritzer (or just a cold Sprite) and lose yourself in a whole new world. Yay!

HOT OFF THE PRESSES:

I’ve always liked Susan Wiggs and I put this one on my TBR stack mostly because of the cover and title. Family Tree is her new rerelease and the perfect one for someone looking for a sweet, emotional journey. It’s the story of woman living a charmed life who finds herself losing everything. She must journey back home to the family who raised her. There’s an old cookbook, a former love and lots of healing. And the cover suggest fall. Come on, fall! The price point is prohibitive at $12.99 but it might be the perfect one to put on your “want” shelf. https://www.amazon.com/Family-Tree-Novel-Susan-Wiggs-ebook/dp/B01825C50W/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1470916734&sr=1-1&keywords=susan+wiggs+family+tree

Love the best friend to lovers trope? How about The Best Friend Bargain by Robin Bielman? Olivia Lincoln has a plan guaranteed to get her life back on track. A plan that involves her best friend, Danny. And he’s on board, too…until she blurts ostacking the deckut that they’re engaged and expecting a baby, and the news spreads like wildfire. Sound up your alley (uh, that’s up everyone’s alley), you can check it out at https://www.amazon.com/Best-Friend-Bargain-Kisses-Sand-ebook/dp/B01IN8O470?tag=entangpublis-20&link_code=ur2&creative=9325&camp=211189

And fun news from Marina Adair – her book Autumn in the Vineyard has been picked up for development at the Hallmark Channel! Such fun and fabulous news and if you want to read the book before you watch the movie, you can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/Autumn-Vineyard-St-Helena-Novel-ebook/dp/B00CRMUJV4/ref=sr_1_10?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1470919306&sr=1-10&keywords=marina+adair

Congrats, Marina! The Rubies are excited for you!

SIZZLING SALES:

The Rubies got lots of books on sale. Check these out:

Ruby sister Lindsey Brookes has HERO OF HER HEART. In this one Ruby’s back in town and her mama is up to her matchmaking ways. Poor ol’ not interested Tanner doesn’t stand a chance. It has a 4.1 out of 5 stars on 154 Amazon reviews https://amzn.com/B004WP3EA2

And Heather McCollum has a book on sale, too!

On SALE for $0.99 – SIREN’S SONG: Book One of the Guardians Series – 2015 WINNER of the Readers’ Crown!

Jule Welsh can sing. She enthralls people with her bel canto voice. But it takes more than practice to reach her level of exquisite song; it takes siren’s blood running through her veins. Jule is starting her senior year at Cougar Creek High when her relatively normal world begins to resemble a roller coaster flying through a carnival scare house. Her mother is diagnosed as insane and committed, a psycho-stalker is snapping pictures of her to put into his homemade Jule-shrine, her voice is suddenly putting people into comatose trances, oh and the gorgeous new guy in town, Luke Whitmore, is interested in her . . . but also wants to kill her.   Find it at https://www.amazon.com/Sirens-Song-Guardians-Book-1-ebook/dp/B019WQ3POK/ref=sr_1_5?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1470918179&sr=1-5&keywords=heather+mccollum

So what if you’re looking for something to get your blood pumping….no, not that…a good suspense. Ruby Anne Marie Becker has Stacking the Deck on sale! Here’s the tag line for the series – In a city built for sin, the Redemption Club is a secret society that exists to fulfill a person’s darkest desires—including murder games—for a price. This book has a sexy bodyguard, a bold off-grid heroine and a missing girl.  Check it out at the Amazon Buy Link

And finally, TODAY is the last day to nab Diane Layne’s Trust No One for FREE and her 99 cent books (The Good Daughter and Edge of Trust) are on sale until the 14th. Find Trust No One herehttp://amzn.to/2b1rzqa

FROM THE TBR STACK:

Ruby Rita Henuber has been dipping into her TBR stack and came out with a sexy fantasy. So if you’re looking for something to light your fires, here you go:

Before She Wakes: Forbidden Fairy Tales
by Sharon Lynn Fisher
Link:
https://amzn.com/B01208WP1G

Ruby sister and Rita finalist Sharon Lynn Fisher blends dark erotic romance, fantasy, and science fiction in these bold tales of seduction and sensual awakening. These are bedtime stories for adults.

Double RITA finalist and Bachelor-addicted Lizzie Shane has a recommendation for us:

It’s a new release by my good friend Kaye Chambers, who had to take a hiatus from writing but she’s back and just released the second book in her San Fran-based urban fantasy series.  DEFYING DESTINY (https://www.amazon.com/Defying-Destiny-Ladies-George-Book-ebook/dp/B01IYH8OGW) is the sequel to BLOOD & DESTINY (https://www.amazon.com/Blood-Destiny-Ladies-George-Book-ebook/dp/B0037BS2H2) and I would recommend reading both because it’s one of those series where the characters build on you and the emotional payoff in the final third of the second book is heart-wrenchingly satisfying.  I hope other readers love getting wrapped up in Destiny & Marcus’s world as much as I did.  🙂

And finally I have a recommendation for you history lovers out there. Last week I picked up Daniel Silva’s The Unlikely Spy.  Set in the midst of WWII, it chronicles the cat and mouse games played by both the German and British spies. This particular book revolves around the intelligence surrounding the D Day invasion and was full of masterful twists and turns. It’s long, it’s complicated and it’s perfect for those who love spies, betrayal and a bad ass woman with a stiletto (she scared me!) I bought this one because it was the cheapest and I wanted to try him. It’s $4.99 and worth every penny. He has a new one out now…but it’s not $4.99 🙂

https://www.amazon.com/Unlikely-Spy-Daniel-Silva-ebook/dp/B001MV0GGY/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1470918818&sr=1-1&keywords=the+unlikely+spy+by+daniel+silva

So there you have it – some great books to check out for every reader’s taste. Now it’s your turn. Share with us what’s been tickling your fancy….or making you sleep with the lights on!

Hot Reads Edition of Fangirl Friday

Promise of FireHello, friends and welcome to a new take on our Fangirl Friday. Instead of merely mentioning the Ruby books releasing or on sale (yes, they’re terrific) we want to make this Friday spot a place we can talk about all kinds of books. New releases, hot sales, and books that have finally made their way to the top of the TBR stack. We know we all have towering stacks, right? And we want more interaction. We want you to tell us what you’re reading and loving. It’s a place to not only promo, but to really talk about what’s tickling your fancy in the world of fiction (or even non-fiction). Rubies will be providing  several books each Friday that are on our radar. Your job is to give us even more…even if  it’s your own new release. We’re a community and you’re part of it.

So here we go:

HOT OFF THE PRESSES:

The Fabulous Darynda Jones has a fascinating recommendation. She was asked to blurb a book for a debut author. Here’s what she has to say:

I gave a quote for a book (and debut) that came out today and it’s phenomenal! It’s called A Promise of Fire by Amanda Bouchet, but it’s more fantasy than “hot”, though it is that too at times. You can find more info on Amanda at http://www.amandabouchet.com and if you’re interested in buying her book, check it out here https://www.amazon.com/dp/1492626015/ref=cm_sw_su_dp

SIZZLING SALES:

Red-hot Ruby Author L.L. Kellogg has her entire Seduction Series on sale. Check out Hypnotic Seduction, Captive Seduction, and Sin City Seduction. I’m thinking there’s lots of seducing going on here 🙂

https://www.amazon.com/Hypnotic-Seduction-Book-1-ebook/dp/B00826BAF8

https://www.amazon.com/Captive-Seduction-Book-2-ebook/dp/B00BBQ2JPQ

https://www.amazon.com/Sin-City-Seduction-Book-ebook/dp/B00YOIN1X2

 FROM THE RUBY TBR STACK:

Ruby Heather McCollum recently read Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. Here’s the Kindle link: Amazon Buy Link

I really enjoyed it! I think it is considered YA dystopian. I was immediately absorbed into the world of Reds and Silvers. Aveyard is a master at world building and pulse-driving plot twists. I immediately bought the sequel but have to wait until February for the third book.

Here’s the blurb:

Mare Barrow’s world is divided by blood—those with common, Red blood serve the Silver- blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard—a growing Red rebellion—even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.

Ruby Elizabeth Langston went back to an old favorite with Betty Neels:

I think that a lot of Betty Neels books are on sale right now.  AN INDEPENDENT WOMAN is 99 cents. https://www.amazon.com/Independent-Woman-Best-Betty-Neels-ebook/dp/B001R4GN5E

It was copyrighted in 2001, so it was one of the last novels that Betty Neels ever published before she passed away.

Neels’ stories are an addiction for me. The heroine is almost always a young, middle-class English woman who falls for an older Dutch physician. The books are sweet, fairly predictable, and ultimately charming–like a tea with honey on a cold night. A comfort read when I need a few hours of peace.

And from Bev Petterson’s TBR stack: Body of Evidence by Rachel Grant  https://amzn.com/B00EA8EO00

Rachel is a fellow pixie and 4-time GH finalist. I just read BODY OF EVIDENCE when I learned it had recently been optioned for worldwide motion picture and television rights. The book was super and I’ll be reading all her “Evidence” books. Holy cow, it was good and I’m looking forward to the movie.

In Body of Evidence, a sexy romantic political thriller, an archaeologist and a US Attorney find themselves on an explosive, globe-spanning chase full of political intrigue and legal drama.

“An exhilarating read that could easily be a blockbuster on the screen.” – Kirkus Reviews

Now the Rubies would like to know what you’re reading…or what the next hottest book of the summer will be. Ready…set….share away!
