Ruby Blog-o-versary!!!

Can you believe it… we’re three years old today!

That’s right, The Rubies have been your companions on the yellow brick road to publication for three years! We’ve dodged flying monkeys, faced down the wicked witch, cowered in the face of the Wiz (to find out he wasn’t so scary after all), and finally, been blessed by the good witch, who taught us that inside each and every one of us lurks enough heart, brains and courage to persevere in the tough world of publishing.

And because we at the Sisterhood believe that ALL accomplishments, no matter how small, should be rewarded, we’re in the mood to celebrate three years of successful blogging by rewarding all of our loyal followers who have brought so much to our blog.

But before we get to the most excellent list of prizes you can win this year, I’d like to make a short public service announcement about our third annual MAKE IT GOLDEN CONTEST coming up on MONDAY, September 24th. If you’re planning on entering the 2013 Golden Heart contest, this is the perfect opportunity to test your opening and have a chance at winning your Golden Heart entry fee! Full details here.

Over the course of our three years of blogging, we’ve had 991 posts and over 45,000 comments! Yes, we are in the mood to party!

Just wanted to say thanks to all our friends popping in. I feel like this place is so special because the Rubies offer a hand up to writers who sometimes don’t know where to turn. Advice, encouragement, craft – you find it all here, and we love being part of that. Thanks for being part of us for the past three years…more to come, right?

    • Kat Cantrell says:

Yes – special! I’m convinced your ruby goodness rubbed off on me and that’s the only reason I’m a success today. πŸ™‚

      • I think your talent had a little something to do with it, Kat. πŸ™‚

        • Liz Talley says:

Heck, no. I’m claiming that. LOL. No, really Kat. You’re a talented writer and the sweetest of people. Karma has been in your corner, sister. I’m happy that I could be a part of your journey though. That’s what it’s about – giving each other a boost when it’s needed πŸ™‚

  33. Jeff Salter says:

The Ruby Sisterhood, if you can believe this, was one of the very first blogs I visited and commented on. I was pulled here by something Jenn Bray-Weber said on the Chick Lit Chapter mailgroup. [no longer remember what].
I’m Jeff salter, writing from S.E. KY, and I have two book contracts with Astraea Press: one novel was published in May and the second will be released next month.

I’m a frequent lurker here and I just want to say thank you so much for all the posts, special events and just general advice.

I’ve learned so much from this blog and even have a notebook with printouts of some of my favorite blog posts. In particular, there’s a series of posts on rewriting that stood out to me as one of the most helpful blogs I’ve read anywhere.

So, congrats again and thank you!

  37. Gail Hart says:

    Congrats on your blog-o-versary, Rubies!

  38. Wow, Liz, you did such a fantastic job on the update. The site looks gorgeous!

It’s hard to believe three years have gone by already, and it’s amazing to see the sheer number of books scrolling by at the top of the screen. It shows that the Golden Heart isn’t the end of the story–you have to continue to work long and hard after the contest is over. I love all of my sisters, and feel so very fortunate to be a part of this group.

  39. Delia says:

Happy Birthday Rubies! Here’s to many more!

  46. Rita Henuber says:

I’m so fortunate to be a part of this group. All my sisters are amazing. Smart, talented and beautiful. To think in three years this group has published more than two hundred books takes my breath away. Even better is reading the comments of our visitors. It’s been our goal to help other authors and to hear that’s being accomplished, well I don’t know about anyone else but I’m getting teary. Thanks to all who have followed, commenters and lurkers alike. It’s been a blast and we’re looking forward to many more years with you all.

    • Karen Snelling says:

I confess! I’m a lurker! I’ve watched this Ruby Slippered Sisterhood site over the past couple of years and I must say you are a talented group! Cudos to all of you for banding together and sharing what you have learned with each other. Although I’m not a writer, I’m an avid reader and your site has taught me to view a book in a different light. My reading experience has changed forever because of all of you; instead of β€˜just reading’ a book, it has taught me to β€˜think’ about what I’m reading. Best of all, thanks to you Rita, for your delightful books which are a mixture of excitement, humor, love and honor. I’m looking forward with anticipation to reading your next one!

  47. I hope it isn’t presumptuous to say I feel like one of you, because you are all so inclusive and welcoming. Your blog is a non-negotiable stop on my browser every day. I’ve raved repeatedly about the winter writing festival, and will continue to do so. Thanks for sticking together and sharing with the world!

  48. Lisa Marie says:

Happy anniversary! I’m new to the site, but I know I’ll be back. Nice to “meet” you all!

  49. Kristina Mathews says:

Happy Anniversary. Rubies Rock! Craft advice is always helpful and I love the Winter Writing Festival. I’d say I can’t wait until the next one, but that would mean I’d have to deal with Christmas first and I’m not even close to being ready for that. One of your lovely prizes would make a nice gift, though.

  50. Catheryne Layne says:

I just found this site. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I am looking forward to following you ladies, it looks like such a great site!

  51. Marilyn says:

I have two RWA chaptermates who are Rubies (Kim Law and Dani Wade) and I know several more of you. You’re all publishing too quickly for me to keep up!!! Slow down. What’s the hurry? Just kidding of course. πŸ˜‰

But what I look forward to most of all is fellow Writing Playground member Dani Wade’s debut book from Harlequin Desire next year!

Keep up the good work, ladies.

  65. Gwyn says:

Reading the comments from our readers explaining how this blog has helped them has me misty. I think back to the beginning, when we chose to dedicate ourselves to lending a hand to others who shared our dreams, and shake my head. At the time, it seemed such a reach. Other than our GH nods, we had no industry credentials, so why would anyone listen? Yet here we are. The books scrolling across the top showcase the talent and drive that incited the faith with which we jumped into the blogosphere.

It’s been a great three years. Being a Ruby is such an honor. My love for the sisters and the sisterhood has grown in leaps and bounds. Let’s keep those success stories coming. That so many of our readers have found their way to the Emerald City is amazing and inspiring. Kudos to all!!!

Hi Rubies, I am new to you all, and it would certainly be a dream of mine to write a book, but alas, as a single gal (just me and my cat who is unable to work outside the home, or inside for that matter!), a regular job is a priority.
Congrats to all of you and keep up the good work. I just look forward to reading pretty much anything πŸ™‚

Welcome Andrea. We are very happy to have you.

    • Tamara Hogan says:

      Hi Andrea, and welcome!

I’m here to tell ya that it’s possible to both write AND work a day job. A number of published Rubies, including me, do exactly that. For me, it’s mainly a matter of getting my butt in the chair and my hands on the keyboard every day before work.

I’m so glad you found us! There’s a lot of great stuff in our archives, and of course we’re here to answer any question you might have along YOUR writing journey.

    Happy blogOversary Rubies!

  98. Being a Ruby Sister is one of the very best parts of this journey! There isn’t a better group of writers, sisters and human beings than the Ruby Sisters. When I think of all of the things we have been through together – ups and downs, good and bad – and we have survived. We have been there for each other, celebrated, laughed and cried and plotted the demise of the villains in our lives (alligator farm, anyone?) 99. Hello to my Ruby Sisters. I am dropping by to say happy, happy anniversary to us!!!!! It has been so great to be a part of this sisterhood for three years. You all have added so much meaning, fun, and friendship to the writing life for me and I thank you for that. This is truly a special group, and I am honored to be associated with you all. To many more years of sisterhood!!! πŸ™‚
