| Ruby Nickname: | Ruby Belle | | Biography: | Winning the 2009 Golden Heart® for best Contemporary Series has been Kim’s writing highlight to date, but she knows much more is to come. From an early age, she dreamed of some day being a writer, and started with stories such as “The Gigantic Talking Raisin” and “The Jumping Socks.” Unfortunately, it was not yet her time to shine. Skip ahead a few years and she tried her hand at poetry, but since this was done only when bored at school, and usually to the detriment of a substitute teacher, it wasn’t quite her forte either. But she had discovered her mother’s romances. She knew she’d found what she would one day write! Skip ahead a few more years, a son, college, a technology career, and it’s safe to say the writing career got put on hold, but never forgotten. In 2005 she began seriously studying the craft with the intention of putting to end her dreams and making them her reality. Winning the Golden Heart validated all she’d worked for and has given her a giant step in the right direction. Now it’s only a matter of time before she hits upon the right story and the right editor! | | Hometown: | Born in small town Kentucky, currently living in small town Tennessee | | Age: | 39 | | GH Year(s) | 2009 | | Completed Manuscript(s) | 4 | | Genre(s): | Contemporary | | Started Writing: | Completed first story at age 11. Highlights Magazine had no interest in any of my stories so I took some time off and didn’t really get started again until 25 years later. | | Day Job: | Cubicle rat in an IT department. I’m a programmer turned project manager. | | For Fun: | Read many of the books I now rarely have time for because I write. Last month I mentioned that I go a bit insane with spreadsheets. Truth be told, my close friends probably think I should be locked away and not allowed to touch another spreadsheet program in my life. So yes, I’ll admit it, I have a problem.
My name is Kim, and I’m a spreadsheet addict. [...]

You know that East German judge that was mentioned on here a few days ago? Well, I’ve had that judge NUMEROUS times! Me and her…we just don’t see eye to eye. After recently not making it to the final round in a local contest, I mentioned to a friend that it didn’t exactly shock me. [...]
